RB-47 case: object follows bomber for 90 minutes, and is simultaneously tracked visually, by ground and airborne radar, and by on-board ELINT sensors.
Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) RB-47 jet on training mission repeatedly encountered a maneuvering radar-transmitting UFO which correlated with visual observations of a brilliant white-red light. This was tracked at ten nautical miles from the RB-47 by Duncanville AFS in Dallas by the 647th ACWRON air defense squadron's FPS-10 radar. The same motions were observed visually, by radar, and by the RB-47's ELINT gear: the outpacing of the aircraft, the simultaneous blinking out on Duncanville radar, ELINT monitors, the airborne navigation radar, and visually. An object was tracked by radar and sighted visually. One ball was observed by six witnesses for two hours.
Hynek: The case was reported in detail by Dr. James McDonald in Astronautics and Aeronautics: An air force RB-47, equipped with electronic countermeasures (ECM) gear and manned by six officers, was followed by an unidentified object for a distance of well over 700 miles and for a time period of 1.5 hours, as it flew from Mississippi, through Louisiana and Texas, and into Oklahoma. The object was, at various times, seen visually by the cockpit crew as an intensely luminous light, followed by ground radar and detected on ECM monitoring gear aboard the RB-47. Of special interest in this case are several instances of simultaneous appearances and disappearances on all three of those physically distinct "channels" and rapidity of maneuvers beyond the prior experience of the air crew.
Hynek rating: RV: Radar-Visual UFO reports
Vallee rating: MA2: MA1 plus any physical effects caused by the UFO.
