Second Harry Joseph Ickes incident. 30 feet silver or gray round object as seen from below, showing thin silhouette
Three USAF F-86 jets flown at 40,000 feet Mach 0.85 (560 mph) by Capt. Kenneth J. Scott, Jr, Second Lieutenant Harry Joseph Ickes and Second Lieutenant David B. Clardy, 91st Fighter Squadron, were vectored by GCI radar Type seven at RAF Bawdsey to unidentified object at eight miles at one o'clock to their course traveling at 240 knots IAS, to the south (IN?) at 10° azimuth, sighted visually as about 30 feet silver or gray round object as seen from below, showing thin silhouette while turning, at 50,000-60,000 feet. Fighters unable to close on object which made 180° turn and disappeared at high speed beyond conventional aircraft capability, climbing high above ground radar range. One ball was observed by three witnesses and radar for 90 minutes (Ickes, Harry Joseph; Scott, Kenneth J Jr).
