Oblong yellowish lighted object with a trail flying in a straight course
USAF pilot of F-86 fighter in a flight of two F-86's with 62nd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron after coming out of a right turn saw an oblong yellowish lighted object with a trail flying in a straight course heading 240° about 15 miles away at 22,000 feet traveling 700 knots. F-86 pursued at max speed but object pulled away. Both pilots heard a strange radio transmission on their restricted communications channel during the pursuit saying the name of the pursuit pilot, "Casey," in eerie tone. Meanwhile, three different radars tracked the object. It came to stand-still, then moved away at a very high rate of speed. Radars also picked up strange objects heading west and north at 3000 mph and above. An object was sighted that had an appearance and performance beyond the capability of known earthly aircraft. One yellow disc was observed by two witnesses for 20 minutes (Casey).
Ruppelt's account:
On the twelfth a
huge meteor sliced across Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri
that netted us twenty or thirty reports. Even before they had stopped
coming in, we had confirmation from our astronomer that the UFO was a
meteor.
