Crowd of 150 observers watched a metallic discus-shaped object cross the sky. Explanation: Balloon.
Aeronautical engineer Moulton B. Taylor with experience in USN guided missile and pilotless aircraft development was airport manager at Longview preparing for an air show when someone pointed out an object in the sky to the NW. Taylor immediately announced this sighting over the public address system to the crowd of 150 or more observers, including pilots, who watched a metallic discus-shaped object cross the sky from northwest to southeast with an oscillating falling-leaf motion along a straight path and occasional sun glints, disappearing in smoke from a wood pulp mill. A second similar object was seen about nine minutes later coming from the north at about the same altitude/distance, and then a third at 11:25 a.m. coming from almost due west again at about the same altitude/distance at which time the oscillations were precisely timed at 48/minute. Unusual objects were sighted, that had unconventional appearance and performance.Three metallic saucers, about 80 feet across, were observed in clear weather by 150 military witnesses at an airport for two to three minutes (Moulton B Taylor).
