NACA Ames Research Lab employees Don Heaphy and another, plus Mrs. Oliver Elizabeth McBeth, a pharmacist, and their wives, saw, in the east at azimuth 60°, a hamburger-shaped metallic disc about 25-35 feet to 100 feet wide with a tail fin and a "dirty" surface, rough and wrinkled in the rear. It was at about 5,000 foot altitude and about 1-4 miles away, traveling at about C-47 speed. It then accelerated to jet speed, flying to the south, azimuth 170°. The object was observed with 8x binoculars. A flying disc was observed.One metallic saucer was observed in clear weather by five male witnesses with binoculars on a river for 90 minutes. No sound was heard.
