Green Fireball Event Witnessed in New Mexico
Thousands of witnesses over several states saw spectacular green fireball, north-south trajectory triangulated by Dr. Lincoln La Paz as 12 miles altitude over Amarillo, area descending slightly on nearly horizontal 143-mile path to near Lamesa, disappearing about eight miles altitude. No noise except slight hissing. Over 100 witnesses interviewed. AFOSI Summary: Time: app 1800; Number of Observers: app 200; Reliability: Unknown; Area: Amarillo, Texas (Was listed incorrectly as Alamogordo, New Mexico); Direction: North to south; Altitude: angle of elevation 15°-30° from observer; Course: gentle descent; Color: Green; Duration: 3-15 seconds; Sound: none; Shape: ball; Disappearance: seemed to fizzle out. One green ball was observed by thousands of witnesses for under ten minutes.
