A silver parachute-shaped eight feet disc with a five feet long cable. Explanation: Balloon.

Lieutenant Colonel Hughes, Air Tactical School instructor, Tyndall AFB, Panama City, Florida, while flying a P-51H fighter at 16,000 feet and just before completing a 180° left turn spotted a silver parachute-shaped eight feet disc with a five feet long cable or shroud underneath suspending a silver canister or ball, at his ten o'clock position (to the SE) off his left wing headed NW, about 300-500 feet away and 200-300 feet below him. He banked sharp left to try to follow the object, at 310 mph IAS, but it disappeared in 5 seconds without dropping in altitude.
