Prospector incident. Group of 6-7 fast-moving objects; compass wavered.

Prospector Fred Johnson of Portland, Oregon, was at the 5,000 feet level when he saw a group of 6-7 fast-moving objects heading SE, extremely bright on top, with long sharply pointed tails and one waving like a compass needle, flashing when seeming to bank, at perhaps 1° elevation (seemingly 1,000 feet higher and possibly ten miles away), angular size roughly 0.03° (seeming 30 feet size at ten miles) viewed through a small pocket telescope, focusing on one object mainly while noting 5-6 others; his compass needle fluctuated. Probable daytime meteor fireball simultaneous with Kenneth Arnold.

Flying discs were observed. Electromagnetic effects were noted.

More than five shiny balls, about 40 feet across, were observed in clear weather by one experienced male witness with a telescope at a mountain for under 45 minutes (Johnson, Fred). No sound was heard.

Keyhoe's account:

A Portland prospector named Fred Johnson, who was working up in the Cascade Mountains, spotted five or six disks banking in the sun. He watched them through his telescope several seconds. then he suddenly noticed that the compass hand on his special watch was weaving wildly from side to side. Johnson insisted he had not heard of the Arnold report, which was not broadcast until early evening.
