6 March 1984 Around 2200 Norris, South Dakota, USA 
L-shaped group of lights. Some white (1 bright, two dimmer), four red lights at rear, one flashing. UFO opaque, blocked stars, speed too slow for plane. Distance 150 yards.5-15sec. hum when accelerated, to the southeast.
An object was sighted that had an appearance and performance beyond the capability of known earthly aircraft. One multi-colored L-shaped object, about 150 feet across, was observed in clear weather by more than two male witnesses, as reported to the police, on the prairie for over six minutes (Jensen, Tom). A humming sound was heard. Hynek rating: CE1: Close Encounters of the First Kind Vallee rating: CE1: UFO comes within 500 feet of the witness, but no after effects are suffered by the witness or the surrounding area.
