30 March 1981 Around 2200 Alton, Illinois, USA 
Animal reactions: frogs stopped croaking, dogs barked. Wingless black oval with lights on rim, circular opening at bottom with light. Hovered over trees 10 min, then over 10mph treetop level, left fast.
An object was observed. Animal reactions to the object were reported. One black oval object was observed by two female witnesses, typical age 25, in a residential area for over 25 minutes (Pauline). No sound was heard. Hynek rating: CE1: Close Encounters of the First Kind Vallee rating: CE1: UFO comes within 500 feet of the witness, but no after effects are suffered by the witness or the surrounding area.
