Several sightings and radar contacts. Best was 32 miles out of Christchurch. Film footage at 2:51 AM showed oval lights with rings of light. Bell shape with bright bottoms, less bright tops.
Objects were tracked by radar and sighted visually and videotaped. Animal reactions to the objects were reported. Several cone-shaped objects were observed by five experienced witnesses on the ocean for 30 minutes (Fogarty; Grant). Hynek rating: RV: Radar-Visual UFO reports Vallee rating: MA2: MA1 plus any physical effects caused by the UFO. Vallee reliability rating: 444: Firsthand personal interview with the witness by a source of proven reliability; site visit by a skilled analyst; no natural explanation possible, given the evidence.
