Fog, mist. Hat-shaped, silver-gray object, hovered 500 feet away from shoreline. Emitted vapor at base, ascended into fog bank. Descended, moved away.
An object was sighted that had an appearance and performance beyond the capability of known earthly aircraft. One silver domed disc, around 500 feet away, was observed by two witnesses on the shore for over 15 minutes (Healey). No sound was heard.
Hynek rating: CE1: Close Encounters of the First Kind
