In Mid- 1948 Afternoon Erie, Pennsylvania, USA 
Moved at rapid pace W rapidly to the east, parallel to the shore line of Lake Erie. When it reached position over city of Erie, Pennsylvania it abruptly shot straight up, 3x faster.
An object was observed. It departed by rapidly flying straight up until lost to sight. One silver oval object was observed by one male witness at a lake for 18 seconds (Didelot). No sound was heard. Hynek rating: DD: Daylight Discs Vallee rating: FB1: A simple sighting of a UFO traveling in a straight line across the sky. Vallee reliability rating: 303: Reliable source, firsthand; no site visit, or answer unknown; natural explanation requires major alteration of several parameters.
