Italian Air Force incident. Seen by thousands, tracked by radar. Explanation: Balloon.
A red or silver bullet-shaped object was seen by thousands of witnesses. Following reports to the staff of the airport of Ciampino, the object was tracked by radar of the maritime service. Radar and visual confirmation of an altitude of 3500 feet and speed of 150-180 mph. The bullet shaped object rotated from horizontal to vertical (point down); and left a luminous vapor trail. Total duration of sighting: 103 minutes (Chinigo; Giustiniani). Hynek rating: RV: Radar-Visual UFO reports Vallee rating: MA2: MA1 plus any physical effects caused by the UFO.
